This past Sunday I managed to get out to Yoyogi Park to check out the sakura (or cherry blossoms) which are starting to bloom right now. The place was pretty packed with people seeking their own private patch of grass on which they could eat, drink and be merry.
I hooked up with the guys from LearnJapanesePod.com who were there in full force, complete with music, food and other wackiness besides. Cheers to Matthew for the invite out. I’m still a JapaNoob, so it’s always fun to experience stuff like this.
Here’s a short video clip I whipped up so you can get an idea of these hanami/flower-watching parties:

Ah yoyogi is so nice in springtime, I cant belive its been 2 years since I was there. Im having my own Hanami party this week here in the UK, but I think there will be less party goers!
Ill be back In the autumn, I hope to see reds and golds of the leaves turning this time. Nice vid, pity we dont have this sort of thing in the UK, but then again Im pretty sure some hooligan or other would do their level best to ruin it…
Rick, it was great to meet you at the hanami party the other day. Thanks for coming out. Awesome video btw.
This is a great video! I was in Kyoto March 28-March 31 (way too short!) and Tokyo April 1-April 3. The hanami was AMAZING in both locations!
Thanks for bringing back memories through your video!
Hey Rick,
Was really good to meet you last night.
Excellent video, really nice narrative for the events of the day, not just pretty flowers which was cool.
Hope to see you again soon.

Cheers Will.
Enjoyed seeing your photos too. Great site you got there!
